As my role is to organise the musical content, I finished editing the ambient sound and soundtrack. I decided to use a piece composed by an ensemble of fellow musicians which they have given me permission to use, as I felt it fitted the tone of our short film.
I've constructed a letter stating that they give permission in writing for the song to be used, which they've signed.
I choose this piece of music because...
- Social Realism films tend to have a repeated motif/theme
- It was easy for me to access this music
- Instrumentation, guitar slide mimicks the ghost theme
- Acoustic guitar is simple, didn't want to use complex instruments or for the music to distract from the story
There was many discussions and debates on what parts of the soundtrack to use, as Jo and Emma wanted the drums to come in at the end of our short film, as Amie is walking away. I disagreed with this as I felt that the drums were too dramatic for the theme of our short film, and felt it didn't fit. However, I found a compromise which I introduced the drums much later in the piece, to keep both camps happy.
